Jharkhand CM Appreciates Selection Of Gumla Girl In Indian Team For AFC Asian Cup

Jamshedpur 12th Jan 2021: Jharkhand’s Sumati Kumari has made it to the final senior women’s squad for the AFC Asian Cup, which begins in Mumbai in January.

Sumati was part of a 7-member U-17 team that was brought back from their homes after the Chief Minister intervened for food support and training at Morahabadi in Ranchi.

The Jharkhand government, in its effort to empower women in sports, hosted this Indian women’s squad for three months in Jamshedpur on the instructions of the Chief Minister.

Sumati belongs to a very poor family and is just 18 years old. She has been one of the most promising players in India in the last two to three years.

Sumati became the first woman footballer from Jharkhand to find a place in the senior women’s Indian team for the international tournament, which will be played from January 20 to February 6 at various venues across Maharashtra.

Praising this achievement, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren congratulated Sumati and extended her best wishes for the competition.

In addition, India has been placed in Group A of this competition along with Iran (January 20), Chinese Taipei (January 23), and China (January 26), consisting of 12 teams.

However, India is hosting the continent’s highest-ever competition for the first time since 1980 and a possible berth in the 2023 FIFA World Cup is at stake.
