Jamshedpur 15th Jan 2022: Jamshedpur former MLA Saryu Roy has written a letter to Chief Secretary Jharkhand Sukhdev Singh, asking him to reduce the fees for RT-PCR tests from private labs and charge extra money for testing and taking samples.
Citing a letter from the then Principal Secretary Health (Nitin Madan Kulkarni) of Jharkhand, Saryu Roy said that due to the Omicron variant, the cases of Covid are increasing rapidly, which is increasing the number of tests done in Jharkhand.
“As per the above-referenced order, at present, the revised rate of testing in the state has been fixed at Rs 400/test (inclusive of PPE kit charges and all taxes). Earlier, according to the departmental order issued on 01/12/2020, this fee was ordered to be recovered at the rate of Rs.800/test. In addition, an additional amount of Rs 200 has been earmarked for collecting RTPCR samples from the place of residence,” Roy said.
The letter said that according to the Director-General of the Indian Council of Medical Research, the statement published in the newspaper said that the prices of Covid test kits have come down drastically. At present, it is available in the market at the rate of Rs 50 per kit.
“Keeping this in mind, it seems necessary to revise the rate of Rs 400 per test fixed for the corona test in the state of Jharkhand and bring it down from Rs 100 per test,” the letter requests.
The letter states that as per the order of the Jharkhand Health Department, private labs charge an additional fee of Rs 200 for collecting RT-PCR samples at the patient’s residence.
The letter requests to modify the earlier order and clearly explain the revised rate for the convenience of the public.
