Jamshedpur 7th Oct 2021: Uncontrolled scenes marked the day at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College Hospital on Wednesday following a strike by outsourced nurses of the state health center.
Nurses went on strike due to non-payment of salary. Due to this, the patients in the hospital had to face problems. Many patients could not get medicine.
The nurses demanded action against the agency concerned in the hospital premises. The nurses said that they have to beg for salary every month. The salary is not paid on time.
“This is not the first time we are protesting. Even before this, we had to go on strike for a salary many times. Salary not received from last three months. We had submitted the memorandum to the officer of the concerned agency. When no action was taken from their side, we handed over the demand letter to the superintendent. But even after that, we did not get the salary,” said a nurse.
She said that Durga Puja is near, and the nurses have decided to go on strike. There is an atmosphere of panic in the hospital due to the nurses going on strike. Along with the patient, their family members were also depressed.
Officials of the Jharkhand State Medical and Public Health Employees Association also came in support of the nurses.
Later in the day, District Deputy Commissioner Suraj Kumar himself reached MGM Hospital and spoke to the striking employees.
He assured the nurses to send one month’s salary to the account tomorrow and get the incentive amount after Durga Puja.
After this move, outsourced health workers sitting on dharna withdrew their agitation. The Deputy Commissioner said that soon all the demands would be fulfilled.
