Jamshedpur’s Dishita Secured 6th Position In Asian School Chess Competition

Jamshedpur 28th July 2021: Jharkhand’s Dishita Dey made an impressive debut in the international arena by finishing 6th in the Asian School Chess Championship – Under 7 Girls that concluded on 25 July.

The event was played online over 9 rounds of SWISS Rapid Play.  The event attracted 39 players from 24 countries of Asia.

Dishita scored 6 points out of a possible 9 from as many rounds as nine.

Samhita Pungavanam won the gold medal by pushing his teammate Charvi A to silver on a better tie-break as the two were tied on 8-8 points.

The bronze medal went to Filipino girl Ventura Gaya Thalia who scored 7.5 points.

The fourth and fifth place also went to Indians Narayanan Rishitha and Ira Bohra, who scored 7 and 6.5 points, respectively.

Dishita is the daughter of former Jharkhand women’s champion Alka Das. From last year, Dishita opted to play for Jharkhand and moved from Bengal to Jharkhand.

Neeraj Kumar Mishra, Secretary of All Jharkhand Chess Federation, congratulated Dishita for her maiden performance and wished her a bright future.
