Both sons of Pradhan are serving Jharkhand police.
As the news of the incident spread, a police team rushed to the spot for investigation. The Maoists left behind pamphlets protesting attachment orders (kurkijabti) carried by the police against some ultras. They threatened dire actions if police initiated steps. The Maoists also put Pradhan’s house on fire before leaving the area.
It may be mentioned that on May 19, CPI (Maoist) rebels launched an attack on the Dhanbad-Jhargram MEMU Passenger train at Kokpara.
The rebels opened 7-8 rounds of fire, though no passenger was injured. They assaulted the driver, guard, assistant driver and station master of Kokpara before fleeing with their cell phones and three walkie-talkies.
The police suspected the Kanu Munda squad operating in the Ghatsila sub-division bordering West Bengal to be the mastermind behind the May 19 attack.
The police also carried kurkiJabti against one of the activists of the squad.
A senior police official said that only deploying of police force would not serve the purpose of quelling such rebellion, but villagers also need to be aware and not fall in the trap of rebels.
